Category: Let's talk
so I was wondering, what's your claim to fame. who have you met who is famous, and what were they like, or did you maybe go to school with someone who was related to someone who was famous? I shall share later ...
Hehe, hmm, the boasting posts, wondered why I never saw one of those before.
Well, internationally I did shake hands with Bob Dole (eehm yeah, the most boring "famous" guy in the world) at the Parallympic games in 1996, in 2001 when interning for Microsoft in REdmond Bill Gates invited all the interns to his house (and trust me,there was more than enough space for the 60 of us would've been enough space for 6000 people in that house) and we had a bbq and we hang out and chatted with him for 2 hours. It was actually fun, he was really nice and it was amazing he knew all about all the projects we were working on. My admiration for the man increased a lot after that, he runs a huge company and he knows even what the interns for the small teams within the company are doing, and you can even get your ideas and papers to him without having to go through your managers or anything, he's a really cool guy. EEhm, on in 1992 whilst in Barcelona with some friends we met Iron Maiden, the entire band, at a bar. Again this was parallympics (I've only been to two and it was so worth training 8 to 10 times a week getting up at 5am in the morning etc). We chatted with them for a bit, just mostly about their touring and they asked all about the competition and stuff, they seemed super nice and they gave up VIP passes to their concert that night, I still have the pass on my wall, of course, it was fun.
EEm, yeah, then we met lotsof Icelandic politicans, president and the like but eehm who cares about that really . Oh, I did go to school with Bjork's brother (who, for the record, is a horrible singer) and we still keep in touch. He's a fun guy does not like to talk about his siter or her fame much and I don't really likeit either. If someone in Iceland is famous you're bound to know them somehow, it's such a tiny country.
And if anyone knows the band Sigur Ros, (big in the indie scene here, well they weree some years ago) I used to share rehearsal space with those guys back in 1996 and I know them fairly well, cool guys, fun to go to their concerts.
Hehe, that's eehm my little boasting ... I like eeting people that inspire me for sure, I don't think it makes me special in any way but meeting someone who you look up to is just often a very positive inspiration for you as a person.
Cheers

hmmm, I've met mud vayne. not sure if anyone kknows who they are. theyare a metal band that started out in the town i live in. They used to play out at my grandparents house. They live out in the country and my uncle's used to have big parties and they rented semi trailers and they played there a couple of times. They were friend's of my uncle's. I was little then though. I think i charged a quarter to fill there beers. lol! go shea shea! lol!
I have met the wonderful former Formula 1 commentator Murray Walker and we had a brief, but interesting, chat about Ferrari's unbridled success.
...........
But the highlight was joanna Lumley ohh man
to continue
...
since her early days in television I have drooled over Joanna Lumley and when she said my name it was a miracle that I managed to answer her at all.
..the 3rd was meeting David Attenborough to chat with a man who has an incomparable knowledge of the natural world, and to hear him being so modest and amusing, just increased my respect and admiration for him..
........
We are still hoping to bump in to Michael Schumacher though I can imagine the chat will be very quick indeed.
When I was young and impressed by the Osmonds, I actually shook hands with Donny at one of their concerts.
Just recently I found out that a co-worker of mine's father was in the Army and stationed in Texas with Elvis for awhile before being shipped to Germany.
When I was learning to play the guitar, my guitar teacher took me to a Doc Watson concert, and his car just happened to be parked next to ourrs, so I actually got to talk to him for a few minutes. I asked him how he was able to do those runs with the guitar strings, that's where you mix in a few notes along with the chords. He said, just practice. And once when Jonathan Mosen had his blind line show on acb radio, he had Ronny Millsap as his guest, and I was one of the callers, so I got to talk to him. Of course, that wasn't meeting him in person, but I did talk to him. Both he and Doc Watson were very nice, not stuck up, like you'd expect a lot of famous people to be.
wonderwoman
Wonderwoman, I know someone who runs a Ronnie Milsap fan club, and he loves going on their and staying in touch with his fans, so like you said, he is not a bit stuck up.
ok, please god, I dont' wanna sound funny here, but yeh, ok. When i was about five, my school was on the news, and again when I was about ten, and I was in shots on both of them. When I was seven, I was on a show called Jim'll fix it, which is a show that used to be on here in the UK. Basically, you'd write in to Jimmy Savvle, and wish for something and ask him if he could make this one thing happen for you. My brother and I got to meet Paul Daniels, and I did a magic trick with him. Upon reflection, my brother just kinda stood there. I feel bad for that. Then, when I was fifteen, I had a poem that I wrote published in a magazine and myself and my friend wrote a song about the mellennium and entered it in to a competition. Two thousand schools entered, and we were one of the twenty-two winners. We got to record our song. It was produced by Sir George Martin, who, legend or not, made it sound like utter crap, and we had no control over that happening, and we performed in a concert in the mellennium dome. All good, smile.
I almost tripped over Peter Jennings when I was in third grade... How's that?
when i was younger, my mom took me to a shania twain concert, and i met her during the show. it was sooo cool, she held my hand and touched my cheek, smiles. im glad i have a good memory, cause things like that are definitely worth remembering. i hope i can meet constantine from american idol, he's sooooo hot!
Well, I'll always be known as the Jeopardy Girl, and I've obviously met Alex Trebeque. He was a nice guy, but he really liked my guide dog. I also met Ken Jennings when he came to give a lecture at a local college. He said he saw my show which really flattered me. He was really down to earth and funny. And I've become friends with the Bishop of my diocess. When I was going to the Perkins School we met the Bishop (he hadn't been installed yet and was still living up in Boston) at the airport and he offered to drive us to the school so we wouldn't have to take the subway with all my stuff. He actually drove the car and we've met on several occasions since. We had a Mass for the Pope last night at our Cathedral and he came up and hugged me before I walked in and said it was nice to see me again. It's great to have a Bishop who remembers you.
I met Celine dion on 12th July 1995. I wrote a letter to me radio sation cos I heard she was coming to Australia so I wrote to this segment called "Kevin and Jill will fix it" and it was part of the breakfast show where they read letters and try to grant kinda wishes. so yeah .. they read my letter and spoke to me and told me that "they'll fix it" and so I went to the station with a sighted friend (who had written over my braille letter) and my parents. and after the interview she recorded, it was our turn. I was way way way too shy for my own damn good! I of course regret it now!
Then in November 02 I met gretel Killeen - an Australian author and also host of our BigBrother! :) that was awesome as I love her to bits too! :)
My Brother met Scottish comedian musician actor Billy Connolly when he was filming in Edinburgh, he was exactly as Ally expected unprentious, effortlessly funny and very interested in his art work
well .. as thos of you who read the boards know, I know David Blunkett, not quite as well as Kimberley quinn though .. but fairly well. Also, P W Botha, ex president of South Africa, has a blind granddaughter. She was in my class, and was my room mate at school. Why can't i know singers and pop stars ...
ah sorry forgot to answer the second part of the question Lol Celine dion was very nice, as I knew she would be. - giving me heaps of hugs and *trying (being the operative word) to talk to me. and she'd said "we should have been on our own" as she knew I was shy!
Gretel Killeen was also very nice, and I asked if I could hug her (Lol) and we were chatting about jaws and stuff and how I would scan her book (that I bought which she signed) and i told her that, since she does voice-over work, she needs to read her books on audio for us "poor blindies" hahaha
Hi Catlover, it's good to meet up with a celebrity who is down to earth. It's unusual for a famous person to stay so in touch with his fans.
I also met Ginny Owens. She was nice, very sweet. Not stuck up at all.
